Medical ethics and genocide in Gaza: a deontological analysis

This essay analyzes, from ethical, historical, and professional perspectives, the role of medicine in contexts of mass violence and systematic human rights violations, with particular emphasis on the performance of healthcare personnel. Although human rights principles reject discrimination based on race, color, ethnicity, religion, or any other distinction, the actions of international organizations—such as the United Nations, international courts, and non-governmental organizations—reveal a persistent inability to address this conflict, enforce fundamental medical ethical principles, and respond effectively to the devastating human rights situation. The case of Gaza illustrates these challenges, where these principles have been systematically violated, rendering adherence to medical ethics a heroic and often unattainable task.
